Working in Europe for Everyone in Yorkshire and the Humber
25th October 2006 - Linda McAvan MEP welcomes South Yorkshire Euro CashLabour Euro-MP Linda McAvan has welcomed the government's confirmation this week that South Yorkshire will receive £267m of European funding as transition money between next year and 2013, at the end of the Objective One programme.
Yorkshire as a whole will be eligible for £590million of European funding over the next seven years. The Objective One programme has seen more than £730million of EU Structural Funds invested in South Yorkshire since 2000.
Linda McAvan said; "You can hardly fail to notice the impact of European funding in any town or city centre in our area. Objective One has played a big role in the transformation of Yorkshire towns in recent years. When the new EU budget was negotiated in December, we knew that there were new pressures because of the expansion to take in new countries in Eastern Europe. I thought then that we needed to come to an arrangement that did not suddenly end European funding to our area, and this announcement confirms a good deal for South Yorkshire." |
