The EU: Good news for the Environment

envileaflet.jpg Linda lanched a new leaflet at Labour's Spring conference to highlight recent environmentally friendly policies enacted through the European Union.

At a fringe meeting at the conference, Linda spoke alongside Defra Minister Ben Bradshaw and pointed out how important it is that the practical benefits of EU politics can be explained.

The leaflet spells out environmental gains made by the EU under three headings: "tackling dangerous chemicals in everyday life", "cleaning up our air and water" and "recycling - an end to the throw away society". It explains how, amongst other things, thanks to European rules greenhouse gases from fridges and car air-condition systems are being cut, and electrical waste will have to be treated or recycled - and not simply dumped in landfill.
