Timeshares: don't get conned

Every year, thousands of people travel to other EU countries on holiday. Many of them dream about being able to return to their place in the sun. Some will be tempted to buy a timeshare or holiday club place... and that might be just where their problems begin.

Some of the most common problems raised with MEPs are problems with timeshares, holiday clubs and other such holiday arrangements. Linda is demanding changes in European rules to give better protection for people who are considering buying some time in the sun.

If you are considering buying a timeshare or similar product, make sure that you are confident about the company. Don't sign up on the spur of the moment, or after a lengthy sales-pitch. Has the company signed up to the Organisation for Timeshare in Europe's code of ethics? Have you taken advice from the Timeshare Consumers Association? What have other customers said about the company?
